Renée de la Torre has been researcher and Professor of Anthropology at the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS Occidente) in Guadalajara since 1993. She specializes in the study of religious change in Mexico and Latin America, spiritual movements, laicism and secularization, and new urban identities. She is member of Mexico’s National Science Academy and the National System of Researchers. She is co-founder of the Network of Researchers of the Religious Phenomena in Mexico (RIFEM), was member of the Council of the International Society for the Sociology of Religion (2010-2012), and Mexico’s representative at the
Mercosur  Religion Scientist Association (2012-2014). She has published the awarded books Los hijos de la Luz (1995), La Ecclesia Nostra (2006),Guadalajara: Una ciudad donde habitan muchos dioses (2011) andReligiosidades nómadas (2011). She was Visiting Fellow at the University of Cambridge, la Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III, and the University of Río Grande do Sul. She obtained a Ph.D. in Social Sciences with a specialization in Social Anthropology at the CIESAS and the University of Guadalajara.
